Together with me, we have brother Sun, brother Lim, brother Chew, all of us are resident of botanic

We were started the Night Recycle activities (collection of the recycle items) from April 2011 - 1st Thursday of the Month, Venue is Jenaris Precinct (in between the Kiara and Jenaris field - Beside the TNB electical room)
At December 2011, it will be our 9th month activities and which will be hold at 1st December 2011 (Thursday).
WE would like to take this opportunity to hold a event/activities to bring up the Recycle Awareness to all our Bandar Botanic Resident.
I am seeking some collaboration from BBRA, so that we plan this event in progress.

A) Bring up the Recycle Awareness for our Botanic Resident by inviting me to participle our activities, how we plan to do it
- On 1st Dec 2011 Night Recycle Day. We will prepare some Vegetarian Foods for dinner time and inviting those resident which live near to our recycle point example Houses along Jenaris 1/3 and Kiara 2/4.
- On 1st Dec 2011 Night Recycle Day. We will explain what kinds of resources (plastics, paper, metal ....etc) is being collected by us?
- On 1st Dec 2011 Night Recycle Day. We will encourage all the resident to sorting their recycle items before sending it to us. So it is important that we arrange this "Know-How" Session and share with our all botanic resident.

B) Before the actual day happening (1st Dec 2011), we definitely need to broadcast this activities, via
- Door to door, visiting and inviting our resident especially houses along Jenaris 1/3 and Kiara 2/4 to join us for dinner session - which we had been prepared Vegetarian foods.

CRIME ALERT

Dear all,

Please note that there are two crime incidents reported today.

1, In first incident in Jalang Bungor 1, one or two intruders climbed over the fence of a house at 6 am morning and took away the bicycle from the intermediate house. The house owner was awake. A police report being lodged.

2. The second incident just 1 hour before, 2 guys in motor came to a corner semi de house in jln Kiara 13 and took away the tool boxes of the contract workers working there.

Even though it seems to be minor in nature, we the residents have to be alert to prevent these bad guys to come inside our residents area.

Please pass the message to others so that we can be proactive during the upcoming holidays.

Danger from Dengue.

Recently a resident in Jalan Jenaris 6 was admitted to the Hospital due to dengue fever and as a result the Hospital Kementerian came to fog the area of 200m around the house.

Residents should be aware of the danger and to make sure the surrounding areas are cleared of stagnant waters.

More important, the Township must work as fast as possible to start getting the waters moving around the Lake near end of Phase 8. The illegal fishing there is also a cause of dengue because once the fishes are gone, mosquitoes breeds easily.

BBRAeNEWS No.404 - Security Dialog among Kiara residents by BBRA

Sharing with you The Minutes of The Security Dialog among Kiara residents organised by BBRA(in briefs).

On 28th August,2011 (Sunday), BBRA organised a Security dialogue among Kiara residents at the Multipurpose Hall of TMO at 3pm. The agenda of the dialogue was - "To collectively discuss and agree on the options for crime prevention based on the recent house break-ins in Kiara and Bandar Botanic as a whole."
At the dialogue, BBRA committee member Mr Melvin took charge and there was a good response among Kiara residents. Many took the oportunity to air their opinions, especially from the crime victims.
BBRA Jacob Thomas arranged mineral waters and collect subscription dues. BBRA Kalai arrange the sound system. Other committee members from other phases were also present.

Measures discussed by Mr Melvn and the residents together were Night patrolling, car stickers, fixing back lane with grill gate, boom gate,use emergency numbers to report crime, switch on back lane light at night, use photo sensor for auto switch off in day tme, clear letterbox always, ask paper vendor to leave newspapers in letter box, activate alarm when you suspect/hear strange voices especially at night, etc.

One important issue discussed was the importance of increasing the membership of BBRA basing on the principle of "UNITY IS STRENGTH".

Unless and until the residents united and work collectively for their own security around, nobody else is able to help us out. We, the BBRA therefore seeks the residents to change that impression, by giving their co-operations and joining the BBRA, to show that ‘UNITY IS STRENGTH”.

The reason is in the past BBRA with the help of a BBRA Security Sub-Commuttee Group has finalised a security contract for security provider, but was temporary put on hold because the BBRA have only a total of 450+ members, where the actual residents in BB are more than 3000. Unless and until the residents united and work collectively for their own security around, nobody else is able to help us out. We, the BBRA seeks the residents to change that impression, by joining the BBRA.

DIARY OF EVENTS FOR AUGUST
ACTIONS TAKEN BY BBRA DURING JULY AND AUGUST 2011

1. ILLEGAL FISHING: Lately, our BB park had become crowded with many outside people fishing from the retention pond. We the BBRA have highlighted this issue with TMO (as the pond is still under them) and asked them to get a meeting with MPK and/or JPS to do some kind of enforcement. Currently MPK informed us that they cannot take action on people fishing as the pond is still under TMO. Even these guys are using big net to catch the fish.

2. SMELLY WATER: The retention pond near Angsana - the water is smelly and dirty as a result of no water movement. BBRA had complained to the developer previously. We understand from TMO that they are planning to fix some equipment to get the water moving.

3. TMO PUMPS: As per TMO, the spoiled pumps at different location of the pond are also scheduled to be repaired soon.

4. EXIT ROAD: The direct exit road from BB roundabout to Bukit Tinggi (near Jaya Jusco) is now open. Syabas to TMO for their effort which is now very convenient for our BB residents to go to Bukit Tinggi.

5. WOODEN RAILS: MPK have recently repaired some wooden rails of bridges near Kiara and Jenaris, on requests from BBRA.

6. KIARA SECURITY MEETING: A successful meeting on security was organized for Kiara residents by BBRA at the TMO Town house last Sunday.

EVENTS PROPOSALS FOR SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER

Bungo Portluck(5th year): This is the 5th Bungo Portluck scheduled on Sept 24, 2011 evening. Please come and participate.(BBRA would like to do the same for other phases with the help of BBRA Committee members).Appreciate each one of your initiative on this matter.

The Gotong Royong(3rd year): The 3rd Gotong Royong is scheduled on October 2 Sunday early morning. Approval have been obtained from MPK for 2 big bins, one bin will be placed in Bidara for residents to throw the rubbish except construction debris and tree cuttings.
The Gotong Royong (proposing for Cassia later this year by BBRA).

THINGS TO DO
1. TO RESIDENTS: Please check around your neighbors on any sewage problem recently. BBRA is getting many complaints in last few days and we can see the IWK van moving around very frequently. We can notify IWK, if the problem is serious.

BBRA Gotong Royong Big Rubbish Bins

Please note that BBRA have arranged with MPK to place big bin in 3 locations covering Kiara, Jenaris and Angsana between September 16 – 18 as part of BBRA Gotong Royong Campaign.Residents can dispose the garden and other waste around except construction waste or debris.

We will let you know the exact location of the Bins in due course. We will also have 3 banners within the next 2-3 days to indicate the whereabout for this purpose.

Addressing the Kindergartens Issue Head-On.

"On 10th August,2011, the BBRA had followed up on the Jenaris Kindergartens Issue in a meeting held at the MPK Conference Room, MPK Klang, with representatives from BBRA, representative from residents,new Kindergarten operator, our Ahli Parlimen Klang YB Mr Charles Santiago and our MPK Ahli Majlis Mr Yew Boon Lye .

It was a very fruitful meeting. BBRA and all representatives together with the authorities touched on the longstanding illegal Kindergarten issue in Jenaris in addition to the new Kindergarten in Jenaris.

The MPK Counsillor Mr Yew Boon Lye promised to take up the issue in next MPK board meeting for a firmer action as per the law. It is going be around 3 years since BBRA have highlighted illegal Kindergarten issue in Jenaris.

Referring to the new kindergarten, the building license was approved and issued by MPK as the land was gazetted for Commercial purpose and the Kindergarten falls under 'Commercial' activity. Now BBRA's concentration is how to make the traffic flow and parking around safe and do not pose a danger for Jenaris and other BB residents.

At the meeting, the majority of the participants agreed that a new proposed traffic flow plan for the new building put up by new Kindergarten operator was insufficient. A proposal to engage a traffic consultant to further study and to get an independent and unbiased report on traffic flow was discussed and waiting for confirmation, since cost is involved.

MPK also proposed BBRA and Kindergarten operator to engage in direct dialog to resolved the traffic and parking issues.However BBRA requested MPK to continue facilitate the negotiation before issuing the license for kindergarten activity.

BBRA will keep the BB residents updated time to time.

1.Theft in Kiara Precint.25-7-2011 (Kiara)

A resident of Kiara has personally written to BBRA to help share the victim’s predicament with the other members of BBRA, over the theft-break-in at Kiara 9 between 7.30pm to 9.00pm at her house. She also said at the same time, another house was also broken into and ransacked. A police report was made by the victim.

3. BBRA 2011 first committee meeting on 24^th July

In the meeting, the following committee members were giving the following portfolio:

4. Kindergarten issue 20-7-2011

BBRA Lim, Arumugam and Jacob met with YB Charles Santiago, Councillor for Bandar Botanic Mr Yew Boon Lye,MPK, together with some residents and the press.

The next meeting to be held on the Tadika issue is a latest update from MPK councilor. A dialog session will be held at the Dewan Bandar Botanic by MPK as follows:

5.New Blog appearance.

On wed 20/7/2011 residents saw a slightly new BBRA Blog setup for the year 2011. BBRA hopes residents will utilize and fully make use of this media of communication and give constructive and fruitful suggestions and ideas for the benefit of all residents.

6. Theft Again at Angsana Precint (July 12, 2011)

July 12 saw theft in Jln Angsana 9, where thieves broke into a home. 5 robbers in a Toyota Wish, tinted windowscreen, all wearing masks and gloves, all with parangs jump over the outside wall of the victim’s house.

(All residents please be careful and observant of any suspicious characters in cars and please warn your neighbours too).

Any suggestions, ideas of how to curb thefts would be most welcome.

Six kindergartens too many

Today(20-7-2011), YB Charles Santiago and Mr Yew Boon Lye, the Councillor for Bandar Botanic, together with some MPK pesonnel, and several reporters from the various Press, met with the residents of Jenaris, Bandar Botanic on the arrangements of BBRA.

The major issue of the huge kindergarden as well as the other smaller kindergardens were discussed vehemently.

The following appears in the SELANGOR TIMES. a free weekly newspaper with a focus on cummunity news.

Six kindergartens too many by Brenda Ch'ng.

KLANG: Five kindergrtens, with another being built, are proving to be too many for a community with just 420 households. Residents of Jenaris Bandar Botanic are growing more frustrated by the daily traffic snarls in the mornings and evenings at the single entrance and exit into the neighbourhood.
"How the council could approve another kindergarten in this area is beyong comprehension." said resident Benjamin Phang. The 57 -year-old, who lives on Jalan Jenaris 8, said one kindergarten in a neighbourhood should have been enough. He said residential homes should not be converted for commercial pruposes, more so when the area is supposed to be a guarded community.
Echoing his sentiment on Wednesday was Bandar Botanic Residents Association (BBRA) committee member Lim Chin Beng.
"The council should come up with a solution for the traffic congestion immediately and stop approving commercial developments in residential areas." he said, adding that residents want a win-win solution to combat the traffic congestion.
However, he added that if traffic is manageable and smooth, there is no reason why the kindergartens cannot continue to operate.
The 65 year old resident has been living there for eight years and has been coping with the bad traffic conditions from day one.
According to Phang and Lim, development plans showed that the newest kindergarten is also being built on a plot of land that is not meant for commercial use.
However, the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) has denied this and maintains that the land is for commercial prupose.
"MPK approved the kindergarden and building because according to their records, only one of the existing kindergartens is registered and licensed", said councillor Yew Boon Lye. The four others are unlicensed and have been summoned by MPK.
In addition, MPK guidelines states that kindergartens cannot operate in the radius of 200m from each other.
Yew pointed out that MPK approved the sixth kindergarten because they didn't see any reason for rejecting the building plans for an empty commercial land.
But he acknowledged that the local council had made a mistake in not conducting a site visit to determine the suitability of kindergarten in the area.
Yew said he will call on MPK's Engineering, Planning and Building Department to conduct a traffic study in the area.
"It is unfair to stop or demolish the almost-completed building as they got a proper licence and approval from the council'" he said.
To expediate the traffic solution, Klang Member of Parliament Charles Santiago will set up a meeting between the council's engineering department, the residents association and kindergarten owners to resolve the traffic issues.
"This is poor planning on the part of MPK to impose restrictions on the new kindergarten and come up with an alternative route for the exit and entrance for the area.
"I cannot imagine how the residents can put up with daily flow of minimum 400 cars driving in and out of their housing area just to drop off and pick up children," Santiago said.

It is with great sadness that we highlight the plight of our residents from Jenaris who have been forced to live with the haphazard construction of a mega-kindergarten.

Tipper lorries have been frequently double parking on residential roads to unload sand and other construction materials without proper hoarding, barriers or barricades to warn pedestrians and vehicles of the impending danger.

And truth be told, we received an email from a resident who could not avoid a lorry as it made a sudden stop by the main entrance of Jenaris, causing an accident.

This recklessness of the contractor has even caught the attention of YB Charles Santiago, who has personally requested for a meeting to follow-up with MPK on the haphazard construction.

We hope that residents will take caution and continue to highlight such unsavoury practices of contractors to BBRA and MPK so that we can put a stop to such hazardous practices. Pictures of the haphazard parking of a lorry in Jenaris appear as follows.

Dear Residents,

We would like to highlight some of the pains involved to keep our neighbourhood clean. Many residents and visitors take cleanliness for granted and think that rubbish thrown, will disappear in the drains and lakes or evaporate.

This is of course not the case. We would like to highlight the cleaning up of our drains and roads by the developer's Township Team. Led by Mr Ng, his team has taken a lot of effort to clean the mess in our township. In the future, it is hoped that we can stop littering and not take cleanliness in our own neighbourhood for granted.

Dear Residents,

A Jenaris resident has brought to the attention the erecting of a temporary wall opposite the Tai Chi course, across the bridge where residents have previously complaint about sand and mud that seeps onto the jogging track after a downpour.

The wall which was constructed by MPK is to prevent such soil erosion spilling onto the jogging track. While this is a good step by MPK to further improve our park facilities, it is with hope that a permanent solution can be found to curb soil erosion.

This can be in the form of a proper drainage system or proper soil treatment. BBRA hopes that MPK will look into finding a permanent solution in the near future.

On every 1st Thursday of the month, the Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia (Klang) will organise a recycling for charity event from 7pm to 9pm the field between Kiara 2 & Jenaris 1. That means the first event this month will be this coming Thursday, 7th of April 2011.

It is good to acknowledge and give credit where and when it is due. From BBRA, we would like to express our appreciation to the commitment and continued efforts done by TMO in helping keep our garden township well. They have responded positively to our plight and residents queries on algae removal, cleaning up of garden garbage, maintenance of neglected properties, repairing of walkways and more.

Hope the New Year brings good fortunes to us all especially in terms of welfare, security, landscape, and commercial realisation of our Botanic commercial area.

On that note, on behalf of BBRA we believe that credit must be given to the new Township Manager who has taken the first step towards improving our township. In particular were the issues that were highlighted by our resident from Jenaris regarding the overgrown grass, unkempt state of Persiaran Botanic, and rubbish being dumped indiscriminately at a pothole at Jenaris and the charity recycling bins. (The last known issue was when unknown and uncivilised people dump soil rubbish and a sofa set!)

As at yesterday evening, 5th January 2011, it is good to note that grass along Persiaran Botanic was being cut and weeds were being pulled out. Also, the recycling bins have been cleared and in all honestly, we hope that the supplier of those bins will move them to another location where some form of check and balance can occur.

However, still pending is the status of the pothole at Jenaris, which we hope the Township Manager can look into. And the continued maintenance of the park and the landscaping, replacement of missing drain covers since 2007 at various phases, and removal of illegal buntings/stickers/signboards that keep appearing at our lamp post, street signs, etc.

Dear residents,

For the benefit of all residents, we would like to announce the appointment of a new township manager for the developer, Mr Ng. We hope that Mr Ng has the best interest of the Botanic community at heart and we wish him all the best in his duties.

Anyway, prior to a meeting by residents with TMO, some questions were posed to BBRA on the maintenance of the Botanic pond, rubbish being thrown at the lake as well as at the recycling bins (for charity) and the uncut grass along Persiaran Botanic.

These questions were later forwarded and discussed with TMO, to which Mr Ng replied in e-mail as per below dated December 14, 2010:

1) We are aware of the overgrown grass along pesiaran botanik and we intend to cut the grass there. We intend to erect road signages along the same road. We will do the maintenance and clean up for handing over to the authority.

2) We had informed the relevant authorities to clear the rubbish and fill the hole. We will monitor the situation. However, we need the residence assistance not to throw rubbish into the hole. (In reference to throwing of rubbish into a hole at Jenaris)

3) We will call the proprietor of the recycling bins to clear the recycle materials. Authorities will remove the rubbish. Again, we ask the residences for assistance not to throw the rubbish and hope that the recycling bins proprietor or the authorities to remove them. The recycling bins are for charitable cause and having them around is beneficial to all of us.

As you are aware. maintaining the township is a diificult but it can be achieved with the assistance from the residences. We too want this township to be a testimony for others. Please rest assured that we will do everything within our capabilities to make your stay a pleasant and enjoyable one.

For the benefit of all the residents, we let you decide when and if ever, the above mentioned will be acted upon. Especially for the uncut grass along Persiaran Botanic and other areas of our beautiful garden.

We would like to share a contribution by our fellow Bandar Botanic resident Andrew Sum, on his experience and reflection of a "Good Sunday" at the Central Park.

I have not been to the Bandar Botanical Lake for a walk for a long time due to osteoarthritis. However this Sunday, 31^st Oct, I went for a slow walk in the late afternoon and was happy to note that the Lake region especially towards Kiara/Didara/Bongor region is now gaining popularity amongst visitors from other areas of Klang and Selangor, as I have notice not less than 3 Muslim weddings couples taking photographs there by the lake side. One was with the Royal Malaysian Navy I think, judging by the white uniform the bridegroom wore.

Add to this, there is a bonus of one large group of visitors & boys from the Indian Christian DESTINY STARTING POINT, a juvenile home for boys, having their group photographs taken there. I joined in to the group to have a picture taken and they happily obliged.

A chat with the Home Coordinator and was told that theirs is a juvenile home for boys and their objective are ‘Rescue, Restore, Reconcile and Reform’. It saddens us to read about news regarding open burning within our area. Yet, each time it happens, nothing is done by the local authorities to curb the problem.

In case you're wondering what caused the thick smoke last week in Bandar Botanic and its surrounding vicinity, please read the news report below which is a copy of today's Star.

Thick smoke blankets Klang skies due to slash-and-burn method

THICK smoke from a fire near Bandar Puteri, off the Kesas highway, blanketed the housing area and parts of Kota Kemuning and Bandar Botanic last week.

The fire was started by a farmer who had felled and burned the trees to plant vegetables.
Firemen had to dig trenches to prevent the fire spreading.

Several hectares of forest were destroyed in the fire and the peat soil is still smouldering and workers were busy clearing the land with an excavator.

Bandar Puteri resident S. Chandra, 30, said many people experienced breathing difficulty, chest pain and shortness of breath.

Still smoking: Chandra looking at the extent of devastation caused by the fire.

“Even until now residents are still going to clinics a week after the fire,” he said.

“People did not know whether to remain indoors or go out of their houses. The Department of Environ-ment (DoE) did not nab the culprits who caused the fire,” said the electrical engineer.

“The Department of Environment (DoE) should monitor the land to deter farmers from burning the vegetation again.

He said despite sending letters to the DoE, the Public Complaints Bureau (PCB), Klang Municipal Council (MPK) and the State Health Department nothing had been done to resolve the problem.

Chandra only received a letter from PCB officer Nur Ikram Aziz dated Oct 18, requesting more information on the specific location of the open burning but nothing was done to solve the problem.

Total wipeout: Shrubs and branches are all that is left after the burning.

Raja Ahmad Raja Duraa said DoE and MPK’s environment unit must cordon off the area to prevent people from going in.

“Our children are not well due to the smoke and we have incurred medical bills for this bad state of the environment,” the accountant said.

Mechanic Cheng Ho, 45, said this was not the first time thick smoke that enveloped the area.

“We have been having this problem for sometime and blamed the lack of enforcement for the open burning.

A doctor with a private clinic said he had seen an increase in the number of patients from Bandar Puteri and Bandar Botanic with respiratory problems.

DoE director Che Asmah Ibrahim said the owner had rented out the land to a farmer who resorted to the slash-and-burn method.

“Our initial investigation revealed that the farmer had planned to grow pineapples,” she said.

Che Asmah added that the culprit had been identified and action would be taken once the investigation papers were completed.

“There are still pockets of smouldering peat earth,” she said.

BBRAeNEWS No.366 - Getting to the root of the problem

Dear Residents,

It was a fruitful meeting by BBRA committee members En Nor Halim, Jacob Mathews, Jayakumar, Jacob Thomas, Lim Chin Beng, and BBRA member Andrew Sum from Jenaris, with Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) this morning at the IWK office in Southern Park, Klang.

Mr Gan, IWK Area Manager of Bandar Botanic and his assistant Dr Lee represented IWK.

The main concerns raised by Bandar Botanic residents were the outstanding flooding issue regarding the toilet sewerage, in particular the flooding of the ground floor bathroom toilet bowl after a storm. This results to a massive inconvenience for residents who are forced to use only the upstairs bathrooms.

BBRA is glad to note that IWK has acknowledge that there is a problem and have shown the plans that were submitted to them by the developer. They are also willing to work with BBRA to find a solution to this long outstanding problem.

We thank Mr Gan and his assistant Dr Lee for sharing their time with us to find a solution to this problem. While we wait for the follow-up session, we hope that all Bandar Botanic residents can remain patient until an amicable solution is found.

In the time being, we will keep you notified on the developments to come.

Dear Residents,

If you've missed the entire day of 9-A-Side football yesterday, you can be assured that there were thrills, spills, and lots of everything else in between.

After a long day of football, the final proved to be a level affair between Sentosa FC and Sudaroli FC. The two teams were tied in normal play and after two rounds of penalties, the scores were still tied. But after the toss of a coin, Sentosa FC emerged as the first champions of the 2010 9-A-Side Tournament.

On behalf of BBRA, we congratulate the newly crown champions and the runner-up. Completing the honours list were Majestic FC in third place, and Bukit Tinggi 1 in fourth place.

Popular businessman and philanthropist, YB OMS Thiagarajan, presented the trophies to all the winning parties.

As a token of appreciation to the guest of honour, the mentally and physically-challenged children from the Handicapped and Disabled Children's Association of Klang Selangor were given a donation by the organiser.

The one day event which was organised by Botanic Soccer Club and BBRA, in association with Majlis Perbandaran Klang and Cassia Gemilang Sdn Bhd, received participation of over 30 teams from around the Klang district.

In a special note of thanks for making the event a success, BBRA would like to thank the St Johns Ambulance, RELA, Balai Polis Botanic and Bukit Tinggi, the referees from the Football Association, children from the Handicapped and Disabled Children's Association of Klang, and residents of Bandar Botanic who have made the event a cheerful one.

It is with great pleasure for us to announce the birth of Bandar Botanic's very own football club, the 'Botanic Soccer Club'.

Formed by youths from Bandar Botanic, the club is headed by former Malaysian and Selangor football player Mr Chandran (1993 to 1998).

The team manager is Mr Mike Niswanathan (Jenaris precinct) and his deputy Mr Akhbar (Cassia precinct) have been working hard in raising funds for a '9-A-Side Soccer Tournament' which will be held on Sunday the 25th July 2010 at Bandar Botanic football field.

As many as 20 teams will participate in this one day tournament which kicks-off at 9:00am.

All residents are invited and we hope to garner as much support for this and future events.

You made it happen!

Thank you to the Star publications, RedFM, MPK, TMO, and of course the residents of Bandar Botanic and the surrounding communities for making the People's Voice campaign held last Saturday a resounding success!

Even with the initial rain, the residents of Bandar Botanic came out in full force to support the community. The "live" broadcast that was held from 11am to 12 noon was arguably the main highlight of the day.

But it was a combination of many things like the colouring contest, Qi Qong by residents, as well as street presentation and booths set up by numerous sponsors that made it all possible.

Even RELA was helping out with traffic management and crowd control.

THE Star’s People’s Voice Campaign at Bandar Botanic in Klang this Saturday will provide residents with an opportunity to air their grouses on various issues.

With representatives from the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) and Bandar Botanic township management expected to be present, residents can voice their views pertaining to the maintenance of the central park and its lake, the issue of building a sound barrier along parts of the Kesas Highway or any other matters.

Its residents association, BBRA, will also be bringing up several issues at the event.

BBRA president Nor Halim Ahmad said they would set up a feedback counter there for residents to express their views while having a membership drive.

Pleasant scenery: The houses at Bandar Botanic are complemented by an abundance of greenery

Halim hoped that residents would turn up in full force as the carnival would bridge them with representatives from the council, developer and BBRA.

“Of late, security has also become a concern since cases of house break-in and car thefts were reported in the Bunggor and Angsana precincts respectively,’’ he said.

The carnival is slated for 8am to 2pm at the Botanic Walk West (outside the multipurpose hall) in the park.
For RedFM fans, do not miss the chance to have a date with your favourite deejays at the carnival.

Performances and interactive games have been lined up while the charismatic JD and Nisha will be there to further sizzle up the atmosphere.

The popular deejays will be giving live updates of the event from 11am, before the programme moves on to the day’s highlight at noon — a 60-minute dialogue involving residents and representatives of the invited agencies — in which JD will update listeners on the issues discussed.

The dialogue will be coordinated by RedFM’s moderator Norina Yahya.

The carnival will be the second organised by The Star after the first in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya.

AFTER a successful initial run in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, The Star’s People’s Voice Campaign will be meeting residents at Bandar Botanic in Klang.

Themed You’ve Got The Power, The People’s Voice campaign was launched in April as a platform for residents to engage directly with their respective local authorities and relevant agencies.

The Bandar Botanic Residents Association (BBRA) will be playing host to the carnival set for Saturday, June 5.

Lush greenery: The houses at Bandar Botanic are complemented by beautiful landscaping.

Various activities have been planned for the carnival which will be held from 9am to 2pm.

Besides a day of fun, residents can look forward to raising issues that affect them with representatives from the local authorities who will be present at the event.

Special guest will be Klang Municipal Council president Mislan Tugiu.

When informed that the second People’s Voice carnival would be held in Klang, Mislan said he welcomed the move.

He said this was a recognition to the people of Klang, especially those in Bandar Botanic.

“Bandar Botanic is very unique and has a lot of greenery and beautiful landscaping.
“I am happy that this neighbourhood has been picked as the carnival’s first venue in Klang,’’ he said.

Representatives from developer Gamuda Land Bhd are also expected to attend the carnival.

Under the campaign, carnivals will be held twice a month at selected residential areas in the Klang Valley over the next 12 months.

RedFM will be broadcasting live from the venue and The People’s Voice cruisers will also be making rounds in the area.

BBRAeNEWS No.346 - Huge Soldier Ant Nests

Dear residents,

Beware – huge soldier ants nests.

Location – Jasmin field near Botanic Multi Purpose Hall.

Exact Location – Base of tree and on field itself.

Please take note that at the Jasmin region, there is a field near the Botanic Multi-Purpose hall, where a tree was recently struck by lightning or so it appeared.

The true reason is that the tree was infected with soldier ants which have built their nest there at the bottom of the tree. The soldier ants have already eaten the central core of the tree from bottom to top, leaving only the bark of the tree to supply food and water to the leaves.

During a thunder storm, the tree was so fragile that, because it was already hollow, it toppled.

Also, please be aware that at the base of the tree is a huge soldier ants’ nest. The surrounding fields are also becoming a soldier ants’ field because if one is to ‘scrub’ his shoes against the grass, all the soldiers ants would suddenly appears from the ground itself. Very often, practitioners who were going through their routine of Chi Gong nearby complaints of soldiers’ ants nests on the grounds.

Were we all fooled into believing that the beautiful lake with fountains and gazebos is actually a retention pond? Do we know that it has deteriorated to a point where fishes die, the water stinks, and it might end up as a smelly sewage pond?

Many residents have complaint to the authorities and the developer who promised to maintain this pond of ours. Yet, they have today failed to honour their word! They have failed to live up to their promise.

We need a sustainable environment, and we need your support in driving this message to the TMO that is ignoring us!

Below is an open letter by a BBRA member who had to bear with the stench of rotting fishes during a usual morning walk!

"This morning I went for a walk and notice and counted not less than 10 dead fishes about 6-8 inches long in the area of Kiara and jenaris lake region. Some of the dead fishes are near the lake outlets at the Kiara end, towards the new Hospital region.

Obviously this is due to the deteriorating condition of the pond/lake.

My observation is that when when dead fishes appears in the Kiara & Jenaris region, with the jenaris Pump fountain already breakdown for a long, long time and the area from jenaris to Angsana waters do not circulates, dont you think more dead fishes will appears sooner or later?

I do not know what is TMO doing nowadays and they doesnt seem to bother at all over the contamination of the waters.

Oil patches appears also at the Angsana outlet lake end as well as other regions. There is no maintenance at all."

BBRAeNEWS No.344 - Angsana Walk continues

The monthly Angsana Walk initiative and "get-to-know" your neighbours campaign has seen a successful gathering of residents from the precinct. Organised by BBRA Phase 6, the second installment of the event saw new faces and friends joining for discussions and updates in the community.

Key concerns raised by residents were how to improve the maintenance of the park, including the oil slick at Angsana lake which is suspected to be caused by the row of commercial units (car wash) that wash their waste into the drains, improving security at precinct and parks, and stopping outsiders from using our beautiful park as a place to get drunk.

It was also during the walk that residents discovered broken pieces of glass (pictures below) at the children's playground, which is suspected to be from drunkards who were vandalising the park at night.

We thank residents for highlighting these issues and we would like all residents who witness such acts of vandalism or individuals drinking alcohol in our parks to contact your area representatives or the security immediately.

Angsana Walk is held on every last Sunday of the month, 5:30pm, and for more information, please contact the area representative listed in our BBRA Office Bearer directory.

BBRAeNEWS No.343 - Yet another case of vandalism

Dear Residents,

There has been another case of illegal chopping of a tree in our park, and this time a very large tree has been sacrificed for the sake of Feng Shui. The picture (left) shows the stump of what used to be a large tree that is situated behind the Angsana Semi-D units.

On top of the illegal tree cutting, the owner has also dumped construction waste (picture below) behind his house. We hope that he clears his rubbish as soon as possible and be responsible enough to replace the tree with another one, as every tree in our community has been paid for by our over-priced property units.

We strongly urge the authorities, MPK and the developer to lodge an official complaint and file for appropriate compensation immediately.

On this day the early folks of Bandar Botanic woke up to a shocking truth...that part of the walkways were flooded, the children's playgrounds were all flooded, the bridges were flooded, the stationary swans half submerged, backyards toilet bowls of residents houses flooded caused by underground moonsoon drains overcapacity (the underground system that was build by the developer). It looks like the movie '2012 end of the world' had come early.

The only residents who slept sounding is those who did the land grab behind their backyard, where the flood water was prevented from advancing. They had the last laughs... ha ha ha !

The obvious lesson to learn here is that all residents must take precautions against the deterioration of the Retention Lake, and its surrounding more seriously. Already there are more damages done by oursiders to our beautiful lake and garden.

But the situation points more clearly to the developer's problem that they failed to give proper maintenance and check to the drainage systems early attention.... Or did they failed to foresee such catastrophy? The entire Angsana precinct I think is lower than Kiara and Jenaris, and this includes the very Lake itself.

To us the residents, our ignorance are akin to playing the violin while Rome burns.

I have taken the opportunity to capture some pictures. If a picture is worth a thousand words, what will a few pictures say? I hope these pictures will wake us all up to the reality. Go for change.

Dear Mr Goo,
Please consider Angsana Residents' request for a Fountain as the end of the Retention Lake is at a stand-still and slugs are forming. Worst of all, last sunday I have sighted oil patches flowing out from the pipe holes opening at the end of the lake. While I believe this discharging of oil and affluents from the neighbouring shoplots have had been dealth with last year, it seems that your enforcement did not follow up.

Oil patches and oil spills will kill off all the fishes there, including any living micro-organism which the fishes feeds upon. Eventually this will spread to the other parts of the Retention Lake, and the whole lake will be affected. This Retention Lake will eventually become a 'stinking sausage' if no one looks after it properly. At the moment, what TMO has done is really insufficient.

I believe, as head of TMO, you should reach out to the people of Bandar Botanic by having interactive forums and going down to the ground site personally to see what should be done.

I, and as well as the residents, would be most and deeply appreciated if TMO would organize a Forum between TMO-All Residents to discuss constructive issues pertaining to the Retention Lake, the present lake condition - which a lot of residents are not happy about.

Lets cooperate and make this garden a decent green lung beautiful urban park.

I hope you will reflect on what I have written and work to bring back the hope of crystal clear waters that was Once Upon A Time Ago!

The following is an extract from the Minutes of the Un-Official Meeting between Mr Chuah and Mr Venut, in the presence of BBRA's Kiara Representative Mr Choo Keang Wooi and a some residents.

A series of Buglaries and thefts happened in Kiara and Angsana, lately. Despite the monthly subscription security fee, a deep concern of current security level is being questioned around the neighbourhood. Hence, an unofficial meeting-up between some residents and Sentral Security was requested and held.

Date: 17th April 2010
Venue: Resident's house in Kiara

Highlights

1) Resident highlighted of vandalism and illegal fishing at Botanic Park. Hand railings were broken, playground equipment was damaged, etc. It is seen these activities were done by strangers from external (non-Botanic residents).

2) Sentral Security proposed a fenced-up idea around Kiara. This is to reduce exposure and restrict entrance to ease of security control. However, this requires approval from MPK whereby a minimum 80% consent and agreement from the local residents is rewquired.

3) Sentral Security informed that buglar could be a resident staying in Botanic. He also highlighted a suspicious case to one of the house in Angsana possesses burglar's tools. Pictures were obtained.

4) Sentral Security is seeking to have an agreement with BBRA to have a better cooperation in security operation.

5) It is informed that the number of foreigners are increasing in Kiara and Angsana.

6) Residents complained about the followings:
a) inefficiency of guards - sleeping, lack of controls, monitoring and alertness.
b) inconsistency of manning - frequent shortage of guards, high turnover, etc
c) basic guarding know-how - refresher training is required, effective Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is seen necessary and understood by guards.
d) guarding tools - malfunction of walkie-talkie(at Kiara), spoilt CCTV monitor(Kiara),
e) lack of communication between guards - only one walkie-talkie available per phase which could lead to communication issue among guards during emergency/patroling.

7) Sentral Security highlighted issue of not getting the basic needs - provision of electricity and water supply to the guard house.

8) Resident asked for the provision of logbook to every lorong for guard to record during patroling.

10. It was informed that BBRA's AGM will be held tentatively May 2010. An interactive session between BBRA members, Sentral Security and residents will be taking place that day.

The Meaning of Songkran.
Songkran Festival
On New Year’s day, the Thais would typically go to a Buddhist monastery, or wat, to pray and offer alms to the monks. They cleanse Buddha images by gently sprinkling scented water over them. Then, this water is poured on the shoulder of the elderly to show respect. The water pouring is a symbolic act of the cleansing of the spirit, mind and body. It is also believed that the water washes away the past year’s sins and bad luck.

Songkran is called the water festival, or the water throwing festival, as throwing water is the main feature of the event. When considering the spiritual and religious aspects of the festival, some people may think it is rude and outrageous that people nowadays use buckets, garden hoses, water balloons and water pistols to drench each other. But the throwing of water has now become the most fun part of the festival during this hottest month of the year - around 40 °C, or 100 °F. Young people typically throw water on strangers, holidaymakers, foreigners, motorcyclists and buses – anything that moves. Getting soaked under the scorching heat is actually refreshing as it can relieve body heat. The only way to avoid getting wet during this time is to stay indoors – chances are highly likely they will throw water on a person in a business suit.

Yet another real bad collision accident against the same stationery bus parked where it shouldn’t be. They never learn. Over the last incident (BBRAeNEWS No.246 – Illegal and Wrongful Parking), it was mentioned and fore-warned. The MPK, the police & the Law did not do anything. It is an absolute disgrace. It is just another sneering contempt by those illegally parking on the main road, in front of the Low Cost Flats.

The road of Jalan Cassia Utama is slowly becoming a Rubbish Dump of Bandar Botanic and is becoming a laughing stock to visitors and outsiders. Are those in the TownShip Management and Local Town Council aware of this?

Recently a resident of Cassia wrote to me this:
Dear Andrew,

Jalan Cassia Utama is a one way street for vehicle to drive out to Persiaran Botanic. Hardly any vehicle uses the road because of its longer distance to get on to Jalan Langat. The road now has become a very deserted area and its an opportunity for people to abuse the surroundings of the road.

Issue 1Rubbish is thrown along side the road.

Issue 2Leaves clog up drainage outlets causing floods during rains

Issue 3Bus park along side the road blocking off half our the road

Issue 4Accident car park along side the road.

There will be more issues to come if nothing is to be done.

I suggest the following :

1. Open the road to two way traffic with sufficient humps to prevent speeding. If frequent car passes this road than it will deter such problems in the future.

2. As for the buses, they could park at the parking lots near the ‘99 Speedmart’ area but with proper signage mentioning the time allowable to park.

3. Get KKS(Kawalan Keselamatan Sentral) to check the owner of the accident car and immediately removed it

4. Get MPK to more frequently trim the grasses and sweep the leaves along this road.

All residents should be responsible of their own actions and stop treating Bandar Botanic like any other Taman.

Today, I present below a famous Letter written by Mr Thanapalan, to me for on-forwarding to TMO. This letter was written on 12th December,2009.

Good Day,

I have received a email from a resident from Angsana Phase and he presented 3 items of request to TMO which I hope you can try your best to fulfill:

1. The road design especially at the u-turns at Phase 6 and Phase 4 is inviting nasty accidents. At these areas, the roads should be made broader with extra lanes to allow cars coming from the many directions to flow gracefully into their lanes. Currently, the lanes are insufficient, narrow, short for clearance and their dotted lines are confusing - in fact inviting accidents. Already a number of accidents have occurred. What has happened to expert road designers with logical thinking designs.

My proposed remedy - is to add extra & broader lanes at Phase 6 & 4 u-turns stretches.

2. The lake from Phase 4 to the end of lake at Phase 6 badly needs one or two fountains to circulate the water. Currently, the water is stagnant & leads to stench & mosquito breeding.

3. The beautification of the lake area between Phase 4 & Phase 6 is poor with limited / stunted trees. Drainage of rain water & mud at the end of the lake from the walking track must be improved. Elements of pride in their work must be incorporated when undertaking garden beautification works.

Please consult your engineers & managements and I would appreciate if you can let me have your opinion as soon as possible. The residents of Jenaris and Angsana would be most appreciated and welcome to see further improvements to Bandar Botanic by TMO.

Recently on 18th March, 2010, I received an sms saying that “there was a car break in reported in Bungor on Tuesday night and 3 cars parked outside at jalan Bungor 5, 6 & 9 respectively are involved. The owners lost valuables and reported to Police. Please be alert.”

I have checked with the KKS Security and they confirmed that is correct. However, they have reimbursed the loss to two of the car owners who are KKS paying members only. The other car owner was not given any reimbursement as he is not currently a paying member.

The point here is not to ‘cry over spill milk’ and not to question the professionalism of the KKS home guards. The purpose here is to find further ways in which how the residents can further assist the home guards to improve in their duty. Perhaps you have certain useful points which the KKS security has overlooked. By bring out these points, they can study and implement it.

If you have any constructive suggestions, views and opinions on how to enhance the improvement of the security in Bandar Botanic, kindly give your views and opinions into the BBRA blog comment box.

Dear Mr Goo,

Re: Stubborn & Obstinate River weeds

May I kindly refer to the stubborn and obstinate river weeds in your Retention Lake. These river weeds are growing in profusion and although you have at regular intervals engaged your contractors to clear them off, they obstinately returns after a spell.

One of our observant residents Mr C T reported that there are sparodic clumps of weeds alleged purposely or carelessly left behind by these contractors of yours making us feel that the sub contractors are purposely planting or sowing new weeds for their next "business" job of harvest from TMO. Ha ha ha. The contractors cannot blame them for raising their suspicions especially when fresh weeds grows in profusions after a spell. This shouldnt be so if they properly and deligently clears off 100% of everything.

It would also be too costly for TMO to maintain the contractors regularly if they do not do a clean and neat job at one go.

The residents hope that you would instruct your supervisors to really supervise them to do their job properly to get rid of the weeds once and for all, and this can be done if they do it step by step, river phase by phase, rather than allowing them 'jumping here now and there there later'.

All these are meaningful & positive suggestions from concern residents and hope your good office would response by taking them into kind consideration.

I hope your positive actions would induce hoorays from the residents as you have done so on several occassions, on which I am confident.

Bandar Botanic is a beautiful place where flowers bloom and so does hope.

We have received complaints from some residents of Kiara Precint that the entire Kiara area garden lights were not working since the botanic power trip on Chap Goh Meh. The residents shall be most grateful if you can you get your technicians and workers to install back the garden lightings there as without garden lightings the followings would result:

a) Outside lovers moonlighting there in the dark at night and are a nuisance.
b) Residents are in danger of snatch-thieves who hide in the dark.
c) Residents cannot see in the morning when picking up rubbish for fear of touching red ants or snakes.
d) Tai Chi practitioners and early morning walkers cannot see in the dark when walking from their houses, via the walkway path, in other precinct to the Tai Chi Area.

Algae blooms threatened to choke the Baltic Sea

An explosion of phytoplankton has reached alarming levels in the Baltic Sea consuming outrageous amounts of precious oxygen and choking out aquatic life creating one of the largest marine “dead zones” on the planet. As part of nature’s cycle, small blooms are the status quo but with plenty of fuel of phosphorous and nitrogen from agricultural fertilizers and sewage, the Baltic ecosystem is literally being choked away.
According to National Geographic, the Baltic Sea is now home to seven of the of the world’s ten largest marine “dead zones”—areas where the sea’s oxygen has been used up by seabed bacteria that decompose the raining mass of dead algae. Intensifying the problem is overfishing of Baltic cod. The cod eat a sprats, a small fish that eats zooplankton which in turn eats the phytoplankton. Without the cod to keep the sprats in check, the zooplankton population is being diminished allowing the algae to blossom to deadly numbers. This vicious cycle gets worse as the spreading dead zones engulf the cod’s deep-water breeding grounds.
Beyond the ecological damage, the algae blooms leave a nasty layer of slime that is harmful to both animal and humans. The green layer also starves out light from sea prohibiting the growth of natural seaweeds that provide protection and habitat for other species.
A new action plan called the Baltic Sea Strategy is underway led by the European Union (EU) to help coordinate the efforts of the the eight EU members within the nine Baltic states—not including Russia—to revitalize their shared sea.

Life Like That – Outsiders Fisherman fishing in our Lake.

Are the fishes released by our residents into our Botanical Lake more tasty and delicious than other fishes elsewhere?

In an episode yesterday, some residents spotted this man from outside, toting a fishing rod, hiding and fishing at the end of the Lake near Phase 1 Botanic West Roundabout. They reported this to the KKS Kawalan Keselamatan Sentral Manager Mr Veera.

Can you guess what did this man replied? Well, he blatantly told the security guards manager that he has got permission from the MPK to fish there! Why then does the MPK /Developers places sign of No Fishing in the area? It is like another kick in the gut by these outsiders.

However, Mr Veera told the fisherman that this lake does not belong to MPK but still belong to the Developer Harum Intisari Sdn.Bhd as they have not yet handed over to the MPK and insisted that he leave the area at once. The fisherman then stops fishing and moved away after some stern verbal warnings given.

I am writing this to Township Management Officer Mr Goo CK and those Enforcement Officers in the MPK so that they are aware of this.

The big question remains unanswered. Why the residents keep releasing fishes into the lake and outsiders continue catching them away? Fishes are very important to keep the ecology of the lake clean and healthy and more important they get rid of dengue mosquitoes’ larvae.

Its like young boys and girls throwing oranges into the sea during Chap Goh May (the 15th day of CNY) and unscrupulous fisherman netting them up to sell again.! Its like living off the expenses of the residents of Botanic. This solves the questions of why many of the fishes mysteriously ‘lost’.

Residents must not sit quietly on their dreams and keep ourselves deeply under wraps because what these outsiders did is diminishing our fishes in our lakes.

This is Qigong – the technique of holistic art of healing.

They are just left dangling there and are not being replaced as soon as possible, which would be a danger to the residents especially little children.

The Metal Bollards structures built by the Developers Harum Intisari with the approval of the local town council MPK, is wheel chairs friendly. It's objective is to allow those in wheelchairs to get through smoothly but not motorcycles.
I have tested this with the permission of a resident on wheel chair last Sunday and found it to be efficient and good. The auntie on wheelchair is happy that she is able to go round the lake 'sight-seeing' assisted by her maids.

A resident group from Bandar Botanic has started the ‘BOTANIC MULTI PURPOSE COMMUNITY CENTRE” and is calling residents to participate in their meeting every Sunday at 5.00pm at the Foot Reflexalogy Circle near Jln Kiara, Jln Bidara 9 and Jln Bungor 8. Their intention is to get residents to register for the family walk. There will later be many other activities for the families of all residents. Today, the local Developers, with the approval of the local Town Council (MPK) have finally now installed metal structural bollards at the entrance of all bridges at the Bandar Botanic Retention lake to deter motorcyclists from using the Walkway meant for joggers and walkers. Very often, motorcyclists endangers lives by their reckless driving along the walkway. Thanks to the Local Town Council, MPK & TMO.
