BBRAeNEWS No.256 - Invasion of the Touch-Me-Not.

The Invasion of the Touch-Me-Not.

More commonly also known as the humble plant or sensitive plant, it is scientifically called Minosa pudica.

The Smaller field, in front of Bungor and Bidara Precincts, next to the Large Football field, there is a silent but gradual large scale invasion of the touch-me-not plants. The compounds leaves of these plants fold inward and droop when touched or shaken, and re-opened within minutes. It is sparsely to densely prickly. It may be a beautiful weed plant but hazardous to human especially children due to its prickly thorns.

Smaller parts of the Big Football field are also been invaded, though not noticeably widespread.

Gated community, or not?
The following extracts taken out from Malaysiakini.

I moved into a brand new housing estate at the top of a hill in Cheras more than five years ago, and have seen how the area develops into a very plesant neighbourhood, with shop, an Econsave, a pasar malam on Sunday, and even a wet market in the morning every day.

This is an excellent article from Sim justifying the need of Residents’ Association(RA) in the Klang Valley (in view of high crime rates). In fact, the debate about RA is part and parcel of a discourse on privately governed urban neighborhoods/common interest housings/ gated communities/ enclosures of the urban commons/ condominiums etc in academic journals. It has been reported that one quarter of Americans are living in one of the schemes like this. In New South Wales, Australia, two our of three persons are also found staying in such schemes. If by allowing the gating up of a neighborhood means maintenance cost can be transferred to RA, then there is a good chance that any local authority would allow the “succession”. Why not? In the proposed institutional arrangement, a local authority gets to tax the residents as before but enjoying less areas to manage.

I have recently bought a house in a gated and guarded cluster of houses. I spoke to a few friends and they also bought properties with similar facilities. When I went to my parent’s house, I noticed that the township phase where the house is located have more or less been either fenced up or hiring guards to patrol that area. As an ordinary citizen, I too fear for the safety of my family and properties. The police ........ Perhaps their resources are strained but I have not seen police patrols for a very long time. Is it really our fault if we want to safeguard our own safety by our own means i.e. fencing up and hiring security guards? Crime will never go away just by whining and complaining and giving lame excuses like it is the ‘police Job” but not willing to even spare RM50-100 per month to get someone to patrol the place.

MPK & TMO taking notes of complaints
Dear residents,

Am glad to note that as per last week, MPK has started to clear the mess at common areas in phase 6. They have even started cutting the grass again after some hiatus. Refer to picture 'slide 1'. This week they have completed the grass cutting and have removed most of the rubbish that were thrown indiscriminately by some residents. MPK has also got the contractor who was doing renovation to straighten the lamp post beside the corner house. Refer to picture 'slide 2'.Though it took MPK really long and TMO some time to acknowledge such things, I believe it is a good sign that there is genuine improvement. I do hope that the residents can do their part to not litter and vandalize common areas in our garden. Today, MPK enforcement was also at the park in the evening. See Picture 3. I did not spot any motorcycles using the park near phase 4 & 6 when they were at the park.

Best regards,

BBRAeNEWS No.246 - Illegal Parking

To: TMO
cc: MPK

Illegal and Wrongful Parking.

Very often, large buses, lorries trailers and container vehicles parked illegally along the main road near to the Bandar Botanic Low Cost Flats, inadvertently causing accidents, especially on a hazy or rainy weather.

Today during rainy weather, at night, an accident occurs. The driver most probably could not see the stationery bus parked alongside the road, without any triangular JPJ road signs.

The owners of these buses, lorries and container trucks lives in the low cost flats and they could claim that there is no proper parking for them anywhere.

Could TMO and MPK think of a proper parking solutions for these residents. Could these authorities allow these trailers to park under the High Tension Electrical Power Cables Towers?

BBRAeNEWS No.242 - Silent Pumps

To: TMO - Mr Goo CK,

Dear Mr Goo,

Perhaps letting the pumps all go silent is not good for the retention lake and its ecology. I believe some of the pumps have been taken out by your contractors for repair, but I am surprise to find all the pump from one end of the lake to another were silent and not functioning.

The following pictures will testify.

BBRAeNEWS No.241 - Are we sitting ducks?

As reported in today's Star. The article highlights two incidences where security guards were murdered by robbers that occurred in Klang. One case in Kapar and another in Teluk Gong. We are located in the middle of two locations and the threat to our security is everyone's concern. Are our guards prepared in case of emergency?

Most security guards are ‘sitting ducks’

PETALING JAYA: Security guards provided with a baton, whistle and torchlight while on duty, are merely ‘sitting ducks’ in the event of armed robberies.

As such, the Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) is concerned for their safety as many guards ended up as statistics to vicious gun-toting robbers.

It said that apart from some banks and financial institutions, most establishments, especially small-and-medium industries employed senior citizens without basic training as guards.

In view of this, MTUC vice-president A. Balasubramaniam said the government should draw up comprehensive guidelines pertaining to the employment of security guards to ensure their safety and that of their clients.

“There is a need for such guidelines as many security guards were killed on the job during armed robberies because of a lack of protective measures.

“Providing them with a baton, whistle and torchlight is tantamount to little or no protection at all.

“Their safety and that of those they protect must be ensured by the government,” he said here yesterday.

Balasubramaniam quoted a recent incident where a 43-year-old security guard was murdered during a robbery attempt in Kapar, Klang, and another killed in Telok Gong, Klang last month.

“In both cases, none of the guards was adequately equipped to protect themselves,” he said. — Bernama

BBRAeNEWS No.240 - Another illegal land grab

Reported by BBRA committee member.

"This morning I walked round our BB lake side and when passing Kiara Precint, I noticed house No. 26, Jalan Kiara 13 (the semi-d row) under going renovations and extensions. Indeed it was REALLY EXTENSIONS much to my chagrin, the extension was more towards occupation as in occupying public land (road side reserve) in front of the said house, without the slightest thought for road users' safety. This blatant act should be officially reported by BBRA to MPK and demand that the construction be put to an IMMEDIATE STOP!"

Dear residents,

From the pictures, it is obvious that the owner of the house has "claimed" public land and added it to his house renovations. This has dwarfed his immediate neighbours and quite frankly destroyed the aesthetics of the street by being a sore thumb that protrudes onto the road.

As a matter of principle, BBRA will lodge an official complaint to the authorities on the matter. However, residents can also do their part in voicing their feedback on the matter to us or even directly to MPK.

The front parameter of the house has extended by what looks like 10 feet. Is this really happening? Would you allow your neighbour to do this if you were living next door?

Please look at where the original refuse chamber and housing gate and the "illegally built"new one.

Can we stay mum to this?
