BBRAeNEWS No.379 - An appreciation to TMO

Dear Residents,

It is good to acknowledge and give credit where and when it is due. From BBRA, we would like to express our appreciation to the commitment and continued efforts done by TMO in helping keep our garden township well. They have responded positively to our plight and residents queries on algae removal, cleaning up of garden garbage, maintenance of neglected properties, repairing of walkways and more.

However, while we acknowledge the efforts by TMO, we must also do our part in keeping our community clean and safe. Please report litter bugs, vandalism, etc to MPK, BBRA or TMO directly so that we can try to follow up on the appropriate action needed. We must look towards sustainability and not depend on others for handouts.

BBRAeNEWS No.356 - Thank you the Residents

Dear Residents,


You made it happen!

Thank you to the Star publications, RedFM, MPK, TMO, and of course the residents of Bandar Botanic and the surrounding communities for making the People's Voice campaign held last Saturday a resounding success!

Even with the initial rain, the residents of Bandar Botanic came out in full force to support the community. The "live" broadcast that was held from 11am to 12 noon was arguably the main highlight of the day.

But it was a combination of many things like the colouring contest, Qi Qong by residents, as well as street presentation and booths set up by numerous sponsors that made it all possible.

Even RELA was helping out with traffic management and crowd control.

To all who could not attend the event, we leave you here with snapshots of the days event.

BBRAeNEWS No.353 - Fun, games and more at 'People's Voice'

Dear Residents of Klang,

There will be a host of activities lined up come this Saturday, 5 of June 2010, when The Star's People's Voice campaign kicks off in Bandar Botanic at 9:00am.

Adults will get a chance to voice their questions and queries, during a forum with local authorities, residents associations and more.

Colouring Contest on the day
A colouring contest for children below 12 years of age will be held on the day as well. Registration starts at 9:00am at the Botanic badminton hall. Limited spaces and attractive prizes to be won.

There will also be surprise visit by a VIP, a live broadcast on REDFM with top local radio deejays, and more. See you there!

Residents urged to come out in full force

THE Star’s People’s Voice Campaign at Bandar Botanic in Klang this Saturday will provide residents with an opportunity to air their grouses on various issues.

With representatives from the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) and Bandar Botanic township management expected to be present, residents can voice their views pertaining to the maintenance of the central park and its lake, the issue of building a sound barrier along parts of the Kesas Highway or any other matters.

Its residents association, BBRA, will also be bringing up several issues at the event.

BBRA president Nor Halim Ahmad said they would set up a feedback counter there for residents to express their views while having a membership drive.

Halim hoped that residents would turn up in full force as the carnival would bridge them with representatives from the council, developer and BBRA.

“Of late, security has also become a concern since cases of house break-in and car thefts were reported in the Bunggor and Angsana precincts respectively,’’ he said.

The carnival is slated for 8am to 2pm at the Botanic Walk West (outside the multipurpose hall) in the park.
For RedFM fans, do not miss the chance to have a date with your favourite deejays at the carnival.

Performances and interactive games have been lined up while the charismatic JD and Nisha will be there to further sizzle up the atmosphere.

The popular deejays will be giving live updates of the event from 11am, before the programme moves on to the day’s highlight at noon — a 60-minute dialogue involving residents and representatives of the invited agencies — in which JD will update listeners on the issues discussed.

The dialogue will be coordinated by RedFM’s moderator Norina Yahya.

The carnival will be the second organised by The Star after the first in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya.

Bandar Botanic to play host to People’s Voice campaign

AFTER a successful initial run in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, The Star’s People’s Voice Campaign will be meeting residents at Bandar Botanic in Klang.

Themed You’ve Got The Power, The People’s Voice campaign was launched in April as a platform for residents to engage directly with their respective local authorities and relevant agencies.

The Bandar Botanic Residents Association (BBRA) will be playing host to the carnival set for Saturday, June 5.

Lush greenery: The houses at Bandar Botanic are complemented by beautiful landscaping.

 

Various activities have been planned for the carnival which will be held from 9am to 2pm.

Besides a day of fun, residents can look forward to raising issues that affect them with representatives from the local authorities who will be present at the event.

Special guest will be Klang Municipal Council president Mislan Tugiu.

When informed that the second People’s Voice carnival would be held in Klang, Mislan said he welcomed the move.

He said this was a recognition to the people of Klang, especially those in Bandar Botanic.

“Bandar Botanic is very unique and has a lot of greenery and beautiful landscaping.
“I am happy that this neighbourhood has been picked as the carnival’s first venue in Klang,’’ he said.

Representatives from developer Gamuda Land Bhd are also expected to attend the carnival.

Under the campaign, carnivals will be held twice a month at selected residential areas in the Klang Valley over the next 12 months.

RedFM will be broadcasting live from the venue and The People’s Voice cruisers will also be making rounds in the area.

BBRAeNEWS No.348 - MPK Councillor's visit to Botanic pond

Dear Residents,

It is time to show your support and lend your voices to our councillor, En Irwan (pic left) and his officers, when MPK tours the Angsana end to the Kiara end of the Botanic pond next Monday, 17 May 2010, at 9:30am.

For many of you have sent e-mails to our councillor, this is the time to walk the talk. Yes, it would be perfect if it was on a Sunday, after breakfast or just after the afternoon nap at 4pm. Or maybe it would be perfect if the visit was at 6:30pm, after our favourite drama.

But please bear in mind, opportunity does not come knocking on the door every day. The choice is yours.

BBRAeNEWS No.344 - Angsana Walk continues

The monthly Angsana Walk initiative and "get-to-know" your neighbours campaign has seen a successful gathering of residents from the precinct. Organised by BBRA Phase 6, the second installment of the event saw new faces and friends joining for discussions and updates in the community.

Key concerns raised by residents were how to improve the maintenance of the park, including the oil slick at Angsana lake which is suspected to be caused by the row of commercial units (car wash) that wash their waste into the drains, improving security at precinct and parks, and stopping outsiders from using our beautiful park as a place to get drunk.

It was also during the walk that residents discovered broken pieces of glass (pictures below) at the children's playground, which is suspected to be from drunkards who were vandalising the park at night.

We thank residents for highlighting these issues and we would like all residents who witness such acts of vandalism or individuals drinking alcohol in our parks to contact your area representatives or the security immediately.

On 20th January,2010, I went to The Haemodialysis Association Klang and did an interview with Uncle Jaya Kumar. Uncle Jaya Kumar is also a Committee Member of The Bandar Botanic Residents Association in charge of Cassia Precinct and also the editing of BBRA Warta Magazine.

Personal Profile
Uncle Jaya Kumar is retired air force personnel, with the Royal Malaysian Air Force. He was a Warrant Officer and Air Quarter Master in charge of the royal air force crew members of the Caribon aircrafts. The Caribon aircrafts are used for various tasking such as:
Carrying Cargo
Carrying VIPS
Carrying paratroops
Air drop supplies to the interior
Medical excavations
Carrying passengers and royalties

He served in the Royal Air Force for a total of 22 years. During the last few years of his service, he was the crew chief for his squadron and a master trainer for new air squadron.
He served in Kuala Lumpur and Labuan and during his years of service, he traveled all over South East Asian countries. He did his basis training in United Kingdom for a total of one and a half years.
He is married with three children. The eldest is a daughter with the Ministry of Health. The second son is a doctor in Klang General Hospital. The third son is a lecturer in the Malacca Technical University.

The Haemodialysis Association Klang.
The Haemodialysis Association Klang is located at No.84, Lorong Jelutong, Taman Selatan, Klang. This association was set up and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Klang. It is a non-profit Community Service Project.
Here Jaya Kumar is a administrative officer since 1998, a period of 12 years. His job is basically taking care of the Haemodialysis Center.

He has 4 qualified and trained staff nurse (1 man and 3 lady), and five nursing aids and one housekeeper working for him.
Josephene is the Head Nurse and I also interviewed her. She has got about 20 years of experience in dialysis.
There are about 39 patients there at the moment. Most of them are poor patients depending on charity from non profitable organizations. Therefore, whatever being charged to them is the actual cost. Most of the patients are sponsored by on of the followings:
Socso
Government subsidies
Tzu Chi
Welfare Department
SP Setia Foundation (in which Yan Sri Lee Lam Thye is the Chairman).
Selangor State Government (under Dr Xavier Kumar, he is the Selangor Exco Member and he sponsored 7 patients)
Charity from kind hearted individuals.

The Haemodialysis Association Klang also organized fund raising activities such as Food Fairs and Charity Dinners. Their new building across the road, is still short of funds.

During the course of my interview, I also met two medical students from International Medical University who came to observe, study and do research about dialysis. They are Miss Low Mei Xiu and Miss Tan Jun Ee.

(In my personal opinion, Uncle Jaya Kumar is one of the Roman Senators of BBRA who dares to go where Angels fear to tread).

A concern resident decides to write about what has happened in Bandar Botanic.

Vandalism of TMO lamp posts
This morning at 8.00am, I went for a walk around the Botanic Lake and proceeding from Jenaris, I went anti-clockwise directions. After the Phase 4 bridge, I was dismay to notice two TMO Lamp Posts broken down by vandalism and laying on the ground, on either side of the river banks. The Halon lamp covers and electrical wirings were all broken out and detached.

Further down the pathway, at the Gazabo, I noticed some wooden planks of the Gazabo benches were broken and missing, again by vandalism. I construed that vandalism is an environmental crime.

Looking for high class arts entertainment? Well, not here in Bandar Botanic. Grafitti, the urban art of the people is a crime. To me it is bad culture of uneducated urban people. I stop and take a moment and found this on the floor of one of the Gazabo. Spray-painted sprawl on the floor. The message of these cryptic writings have no meaning to most people. It is the language of graffiti writer/s and gang member/s. Disgusting indeed as it will cost taxpayers money to clean it up.

Again, further down in from of Angsana Phase, I was very angry to see one piece of wooden sign of the Wooden Decorative Sign Post broken and on the ground.

Rubbish thrown by hooligans last night’s party
I did an anti-clockwise, and cross the basketball court and badminton court and notice lots of rubbish papers, empty bottles thrown by last night people who were having a party there. After the party, they do not even have the sense of responsibility to pick up all the rubbish.

Ruffians Cyclists from Bukit Tinggi
I did notice there are about 4-5 ruffians cyclists enthusiasts cycling very, very fast on their sports bicycles round the lake’s pathway, oblivious to the old men, women and children walking there. These cyclists would just rings their sports cycles and speed pass you at very high speed.
They are becoming ridiculous and annoying. They are also endangering others path walkers. Perhaps they should be required to take a test and have insurance because they could cause accidents and they get away with it.

Points of interests
As usual on a Sunday morning, there were many Joggers young and old, of many races and religions. I noticed that quite a many are also Muslim from either the botanic garden and some are from the Low and Medium Costs Flats. There are also a couple of stroke residents who literally had to drag their leg along. They told me it was the most pain ever just to sit or stand, getting out of bed was extreme pain. Just imagine how they would have to stop to avoid those ‘mad’ cyclists from Bukit Tinggi. Nowadays, you will also notice many dead fishes around the lake. Empty liquor bottles and rubbish are plenty.

Lets consider an imaginery hypothetical case. Do you want Bandar Botanic lake to be like our Shah Alam neighbor? Here is a little something for you to ponder during your week-end and think of your children, grand-children when you ponder! Dont be so heartless!
A retention pond which has become a nightmare for the residents of Taman Puteri Subang in Section U5, Shah Alam, will be turned into a community orchard.
The project, to be implemented by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), will be carried out in stages. It will be a pilot project and if successful will be copied for other areas.
Soon to change: Mohd Tahir looking at the retention pond that is covered with thick undergrowth during a visit to Taman Subang Puteri on Sunday.
“We are turning the 1.5ha retention pond into a community orchard for the residents to enjoy.
“We hope to do the land-clearing sometime this month and start planting trees by next month.
“This is the first time we are doing this project,” MBSA Park and Recreation director Mohd Tahir Man told reporters on Sunday after attending a meeting with residents in the area.
The meeting was chaired by MBSA councillor A. Sivarajan who is also Zone 18 (including Section U5) residents’ representative council (MPP) chairman.
Also present was Taman Subang Puteri residents association chairman Mohd Khairy Buyong.
Tahir said they hoped the programme would solve the problems faced by the residents with regard to the retention pond.
“We are planning to plant about 200 fruit trees in the area.
“We hope to include other features like jogging track and reflexology path, too,” he said.
Some of the species to be planted are those that are hard to find in the market such as nam-nam, yellow rambutan, cermai and asam kandis. There will also be dokong, ciku, jackfruit, rambai, pulasan, mangosteen, and soursop trees.
Residents can also grow vegetables for their own consumption in the area.
“We hope this orchard will also serve as a learning ground for the community especially children as many do not know how these fruit trees look like.
“At the same time we hope this orchard will bring the community together since they have the ownership of the place and have to take care of it,” he said, adding that each tree would be labelled.
At the same time, he said the city council together with the Agriculture Department would help with expert advice and equipment to ensure that the project was a success.
The pond, which is located in front of their residential area, between Persiaran Kejora and Persiaran Angkasa, has been the source of headaches for the residents in the past few years.
It is an eyesore since most of the houses are built facing the poorly maintained pond. It is also home to snakes and monitor lizards.
The residents claimed that the thick undergrowth had also contributed to the dengue cases in their neighbourhood.
“We had caught two snakes in the area before and one of them was inside the house,” said Khairy.
He added that as a resident, he welcomed the move and thanked the city council for it.
“We are not hoping so much for the fruit harvest but to get rid of an eyesore in our midst,” he said.
Khairy said he would meet the residents to divide the tasks of upkeeping the area.
Tahir said the retention pond was located on state land and the MBSA had been entrusted as its caretaker.
Work to gazette the piece of land as a green area for the community is being carried out.

Bandar Botanic Klang has more than 3,000 double-storey houses in Phase 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 and the gated Phase 9. Phase 7 & 8 has yet to be developed. Including the low and medium cost apartments, it is estimated, Bandar Botanic has more than15,000 residents and this figure does not include residents in Ambang Botanic, the shop houses in Botanic East, Botanic West and Botanic Capital.
A township of this size warrants a residents' association to take care of residents needs, resolve problems and mitigate issues with Authorities and the Developer. Above all, the association will be a common platform and gathering for residents to meet, voice their opinions and develop good neighborliness. Here in Bandar Botanic, we have the Persatuan Penduduk Bandar Botanic Klang or BBRA Klang or Bandar Botanic Residents Association.
In comparison with many other residents association, BBRA Klang can be considered a young one. It was established in the second half of 2005 by several dedicated residents and the 1st Committee was headed by Mr. Elan Perumal, a journalist. Mr. Elan and his Committee were instrumental in the formation of BBRA Klang and its Constitution. Many activities were undertaken and problems related to its formative years were resolved. In March 2007, Mr. John Lim, a pastor, took over the leadership and with his committee they continued with the association's work, albeit on a quiet manner. For there is no glory or reward in community work, just the personal satisfaction when results are achieved.


BBRA Klang will soon be having its 5th Annual General Meeting, tentatively scheduled on Sunday 19th April, 2009 where members will elect new Office Bearers and Committee Members to attend to the affairs of the association for another 2 years. Our Bandar Botanic community in general and BBRA Klang in particular will need delegated and responsible residents, past and present office bearers and committee members included, to fill in the following positions.

1) President
2) Deputy President
3) Secretary
4) Assistant Secretary
5) Treasurer
6) Minimum 6 Committee Members
traditionally 2 representatives from each Phase

Needless to say, residents must first apply to be a member of the association in order to attend the AGM and be part of the process in selecting the new office bearers and committee members. All residents of Bandar Botanic are qualify to be a member of BBRA Klang. There is still time to join as a member. Contact any of the current committee members for the application forms. If we care for our family, our community and our neighborhood, then it is only right that we show we really care and be part of the BBRA Klang Family.
