The grafting of orchids onto trees.
Do you know that at Kiara precinct, near the lake, some trees are being grafted with orchids? Whether this was done by the residents or by the gardeners of MPK or TMO, it is not know yet, but it does looks beautiful.
The goal of grafting and budding is to join together two living plant parts so that the whole grows as one plant. The orchids supply the roots and the other piece, the body of a tree, provides the rest of the trunk. Each part retains its own beauty. Success in forming a permanent graft union between orchids and tree depends upon compatibility and climate, amongst others.
Grafting is not necessarily difficult, but it does require some skill and
some forethought before making the attempt.
