As reported in today's Star. The article highlights two incidences where security guards were murdered by robbers that occurred in Klang. One case in Kapar and another in Teluk Gong. We are located in the middle of two locations and the threat to our security is everyone's concern. Are our guards prepared in case of emergency?
Most security guards are ‘sitting ducks’
PETALING JAYA: Security guards provided with a baton, whistle and torchlight while on duty, are merely ‘sitting ducks’ in the event of armed robberies.
As such, the Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) is concerned for their safety as many guards ended up as statistics to vicious gun-toting robbers.
It said that apart from some banks and financial institutions, most establishments, especially small-and-medium industries employed senior citizens without basic training as guards.
In view of this, MTUC vice-president A. Balasubramaniam said the government should draw up comprehensive guidelines pertaining to the employment of security guards to ensure their safety and that of their clients.
“There is a need for such guidelines as many security guards were killed on the job during armed robberies because of a lack of protective measures.
“Providing them with a baton, whistle and torchlight is tantamount to little or no protection at all.
“Their safety and that of those they protect must be ensured by the government,” he said here yesterday.
Balasubramaniam quoted a recent incident where a 43-year-old security guard was murdered during a robbery attempt in Kapar, Klang, and another killed in Telok Gong, Klang last month.
“In both cases, none of the guards was adequately equipped to protect themselves,” he said. — Bernama

Are we sitting ducks?
That is a million dollar question with no answer at all. Every one of us treat the security of our Bandar Botanic as a low priority. Many pay the RM40 per month but there are many who continue to take a free ride and the most "pariah" of all are those who do not contribute but complain a lot and set conditions.
To the Security Company KKS: I am one of those who pays $40.00 monthly although my wife is a housewife and always at home. Sometimes, I am worried about these security guards of ours who are not provided with even a whistle, a batton or walkie-talkie.I know they are provided with sticks but they just kept their sticks in their pondok, when going on their rounds.I dont see them carrying walkie-talkie at all. Some of these guards are old man.Is the Security Company so heart-less to allow old man to petrol the houses? Does the Security Company thinks of their welfare at all? They are after all also human beings.
