Haze Alert
The haze of Malaysian Summer
-Andrew Sum
Stepping into the beautiful botanic garden,
Gazing upon the many flowers,
I wonder if this scenery is real,
Or another mirage under the blue sky,
A land which I know not real nor true.
If I could only take a lover's hand,
And find a world for just the two of us,
This promised land where our peace is real,
No hatred to harm or break our soul,
A place where we can finally feel,
Our fantasy bloom and this love grow,
Alas our dreams flicker like a weak blaze,
Across a horizon with blinding haze.
The haze of Malaysian Summer today seemed,
Borne from far fields of sulphury breath -
A subtle atmosphere of fear and death,
Was ever around us today as we dreamed.
